bump ahead! Pregnancy is such a beautiful, exciting time! Let's capture the joy and excitement of the upcoming arrival of your little bundle! Maternity sessions are best captured between 30-36 weeks.
Do you use natural or studio light? Both. In-studio I only use studio light. I use strobe lighting with a large softbox. When shooting outdoors, I only use natural light.
What happens if it rains? We reschedule for the next mutually convenient day. No charge or penalty.
Do you shoot at a certain time of day outdoors? Yes. All outdoor sessions are scheduled for approximately 1-2 hours prior to sunset. This is when the light is most flattering.
My toddler is normally sleeping by then… can we do it earlier? I find that if parents adjust naptime to accommodate staying up past bedtime the kiddos do just fine. We’re usually tickling, throwing kiddos in the air and having a good time, so they are having fun. Once it starts getting later and they get a little tired, resulting in some cute cuddly shots when the sun is setting.
Do you offer family and/or child portrait sessions in-studio? All family and portrait sessions for kiddos 1 year and up are done outdoors – where we have lots of room to move and we are able to capture candid, less posey photos. My indoor studio is specifically geared towards babies 1 year and under.
I found so many great ideas on Pinterest. Can we do them all? While Pinterest is a great resource for photo inspiration, I’ve found that sessions can get quite stressful if we’re focused on achieving very specific Pinterest images. We can definitely use the ideas and poses you found on Pinterest as inspiration, but we have to keep in mind that every child is different and not every child will want to do each pose or idea.
What do I need to do to prepare for my upcoming session? You will receive a prep packet that will help you best prepare for your upcoming session. It will include tips on a successful session as well as wardrobe suggestions.
